Of Bolt And Chili's

First things first.

Bolt is a movie about a dog called Bolt who thinks he is a Superdog.

Chili's is a famous and popular restaurant serving Western cuisine.

What do you get when you combine the two?

Answer : An enjoyable time!

And that's what I got when I brought my sister and my niece and nephew to Mid Valley during Christmas week last year.

After that delicious lunch and the awful 'credit card not accepted' incident at The Gardens, we went over to GSC Mid Valley to watch the much awaited (at least to the children) movie called "Bolt".

So was the movie worth the ticket price? We went for the 3D version which costs RM16 per adult and RM11 per child. Pretty expensive, no?

The first part of the movie was the best! I really loved it! The scenes where Bolt fights criminals and saves the world using his superpowers. It was cool.

It then went downhill from there, starting from the scene where it was revealed that Bolt was in fact, not a superdog but just an ordinary dog acting in a movie. The rest of the movie tells the story of how Bolt tries to save his owner still thinking he has superpowers and later, realising the truth. In his quest to save his owner, he was joined by a cat called Mittens and a hamster by the name of Rhino.

Despite it going downhill, it was still pretty enjoyable throughout, especially with the very funny Rhino giving us all the comical antics.

Only thing is, I didn't find the 3D that big a deal. Maybe the children enjoyed it, since this is their first time watching a 3D movie. For me, I would rather settle for 2D since the ticket price for 3D was a lot more expensive.

So how would I rate this movie? Oh, before that, let me give you a child's perspective. I asked my nephew how much he would rate the show out of 5 points where 5 is excellent and 1 is total crap. He rated Bolt 5 out of 5! I just rolled my eyes.

Just to compare, I asked him how much he would rate Kungfu Panda. He said 6 out of 5! Now, you know how children rate things!

As for me, rating this movie from an ahem...adult's perspective, I would give Bolt 3 out of 5.

Had Bolt been a real superdog, I think the movie would be much more enjoyable. Such a pity, really. I think I prefer The Incredibles which had better script, wit and action.

Well, after the movie, we went shopping for a while, before the children reminded us of dinner. Children! They are always thinking about eating, eating and eating! It was not even 6pm yet, but they were already complaining of hunger!

We decided to go Chili's located at the ground floor of Mid Valley Mall.

My niece ordered the Chicken Crispers.

My nephew ordered Fish and Chips.

As usual, my sister who was on a diet, did not order anything. She just took a little from both her children's plates. As for me, I went for my favourite Monterey Chicken.

All of us ordered bottomless drinks. I went for the bottomless guava drink. Had many refills of that!

Sometimes I wonder if the waiter would accidentally mix up our glasses when he or she refills for us. There's one time at Chili's in 1Utama, the waiter returned my glass but I knew it was not mine as I recognised the straw in the glass was not the same as the one I used earlier!

We also ordered the bottomless Tostada Chips. My sister said she did not like the chips, but guess what? She ended up eating most of them! Talking about dieting! We even went for a second and third helpings!

I guess I did not really like the chips either, but I loved the sauce where we dip the chips into! One thing though, the chips were not oily like say, Pringles potato chips. So it was probably healthier.

Somehow, when we sit down and chit chat, the chips would disappear quite fast - so thank God, I mean.... Chili's, for making it a bottomless one!

Of all the Chili's restaurants in Malaysia, I think I like the one at Mid Valley best! Their food is delicious and the service is good. I have tried Chili's in 1Utama, Bangsar and KLCC and I can tell you, the one in 1Utama sucks! Both Chili's in Bangsar and KLCC are quite good though I have yet to try the one in Penang.

So which is your favourite Chili's restaurant?

Oh I LOVE the bottomless tostada chips! It's one of my favourite orders whenever I visit Chili's with my friends. At first I didn't quite like the taste but now, I am hooked! I think it's probably an acquired taste, and it certainly looks healthier to me (convinces myself :P).

    Yummy-looking food at Chilis.

Bolt was an entertaining cartoon..and there's a lesson behind it. Think for a moment..how dangerous it can be for ppl...stuck in a certain mindset not knowing the truth at all..like Bolt thinking he's a superhero but in reality not. It can breed wrong choices and destructive behaviours.

Foong, what you described about Bolt reminds me of Buzz Lightyear of Toy Story.

I have to agree that The Incredibles has a better storyline. The fantasy theme is always favourable to dreamers, me included. LOL!

Chili's at KLCC is not bad except it's really crowded and noisy. :(

my bug life, yummy indeed! Yes, Bolt is a good movie with a lesson behind it - great for kids and adults! : )

eiling, ya lah, someone got a DLSR and now start to criticise my photos : ) Blame it on Santa Claus - he's supposed to get me one! LOL! I'll consider it but I still find it too bulky to lug around. I prefer not to carry anything when I go shopping or eating.

khengsiong, I thought so too, but obviously it isn't so.

tz, you are a regular at Chili's in Penang? Wow! So loaded! I only eat at Chili's once in a while, certainly not regularly like every week or so! LOL! I have actually not tried Tony Roma's yet - must go one of these days! OK, I'll make it my new year resolution to go Tony Roma's. Haha!

happysurfer, I guess Bolt borrows its story from a few movies, including Toy Story. Good thing you agree with me on The Incredibles - it's really the better movie, right? Oh, yeah, Chili's at KLCC can be really crowded at certain times! : )

Well Foong, those movies are geared towards kids and not adults who are more critical. LOL Having two kids, I know that simple things can make them happy. They loved Kung Fu Panda and want to see Bolt. We'll probably opt for the 3-D experience too just for the fun of it.

The 3D effect on Bolt was not outstanding. I think I had a better time watching the 3D version of Polar Express. When you watch that movie, you really felt the snowflakes!

I love chicken crispers! Of course, I'll swap the french fries for mashed potatoes as the crispers are already deep fried and I don't like to eat too much deep fried stuff.

Tostada chips are nice but tends to fill up very quickly as the corn is quite starchy... It is best shared with lots of people!

babette, I guess you are right. More for kids, these movies. But adults do enjoy them too. I would say more of a movie for the entire family! I'm sure your children will enjoy Bolt, especially in 3D! : )

acura, chilli dogs? Haha! Go watch Bolt just for fun and if you have time to kill - the first part of the movie was very good! Though, not sure if the cinemas still showing it. I'm blogging what I did last Christmas!

rad, that's interesting! Hmm, next time I go Indonesia, will you let me stay in your house near the volcano? Just hope the volcano won't erupt while I'm there! : )

angie tan, yeah the 3D wasn't that big deal. The fried things are not healthy, so you are wise not to eat too much of them! The tostada chips - need some time to get adjusted to its taste - I'm liking it more and more! Will surely order it again the next time I go Chili's! : )

pikey, yes need to queue every time but surprisingly didn't need to queue for this one in MidValley. Maybe we were there early before 6pm?

We only have one Chili's restaurant in Penang which is located near Gurney Mall. I was there once and I was full at that time, I ordered only drink.

I always miss the bottomless menu every time I go to restaurants that offer this good buy. I was in TGI but I didn't know soft drink and lemon tea is bottomless.

I like chips and it is good when you can refill the chips and have a good conversation.

Btw, it is ok to pay RM16 for movie occasionally :) I wouldn't mind.

Wow! Always go Chili's in Bangsar last time? Must be good working for NST! LOL!

You find Chili's at 1Utama OK? I find their food quality not so good. Also service quite poor. I don't know, maybe I was unlucky the two times I was there! : )

My nephew, niece and me are all big eaters! The portion at Chili's are big, but very satisfying to all of us. My sister can also eat a lot but she is very disciplined in her diet. Luckily, I like to exercise, so I can control my figure and weight! LOL!
