How Bolt Turned Into Beverly Hills ChiHuaHua

During the Christmas week last year, I had wanted to go and watch the Disney movie "Bolt" at GSC, 1Utama after reading the review by Pikeydude. It was also the school holidays at that time and I took the opportunity to bring along my sister, and her two children.

Ever since her husband died of liver cancer, my sister had been staying alone with her two kids. It's not often that I visit them, so I made use of that week's holidays to spend some time with them. And what better way than to go shopping and watching a movie with them!

I had booked for the Bolt (3D) movie at 2.30pm. We arrived at 1Utama at 10.30am sharp. I knew that if we had come any later, we may have trouble finding parking space. After collecting the tickets, we had a quick breakfast at Burger King, which was the children's favourite, not mine. I don't fancy fast food, but don't mind accompanying my niece and nephew there.

After breakfast, we went shopping. I did not manage to buy anything for myself, but ended up buying things for my niece and nephew. My sister asked me not to spoil them, but I was thinking, it's not every time I get to buy things for them, so I did not think I was spoiling them.

Anyway, we were so deep in our shopping spree, we did not notice it was already past 2.45pm. When my nephew reminded me about it, I was like, Oh my God! We are late! We are late! So we rushed from the Old Wing of 1Utama to the New Wing. If you've been to 1Utama, you'll know how far we had to run! We could easily beat those contestants from The Amazing Race, I tell you!

When we reached the entrance of the GSC cineplex, I was quite breathless! I did not know how the children fared. I think my sister almost fainted. I passed my tickets to the staff at the entrance, and she said we could not go in. I freezed. What?! Can you please repeat that?

She apologised and explained that the projector for the 3D movie had broken down. Oh, damn!

The children had waited for this movie. How could GSC do this to them? I could just see the look of disappointment on their faces.

The lady instructed me to get my refunds at the ticket counter and book for another movie. Well, what to do? I went to the counter and got my refunds, then asked if the movie Bolt were shown in other cinema halls. I was told there were no more 3D movie, but the normal (without 3D) one was available. Unfortunately, only front seat tickets were left, so I said forget it!

In the end, I bought the tickets to the movie "Beverly Hills ChiHuaHua". I was not particularly eager to watch this movie. But it was either this movie or nothing. The rest were simply not suitable for the kids, some with 18SG and 13PG ratings.

So did I survive the movie? Yes, I did. It was not that bad, depending on your preference. For dogs, that is. I am not going to review this movie - too lazy for that! Let's just say, if you love dogs, you will like this movie. If you hate dogs, you will hate the show. And if you are neutral like me, you will sort of feel entertained, but will not be in a hurry to include it in your top 10 movies of the year.

The children of course, enjoyed it thoroughly! It was after all a Disney movie and if they could not entertain children with their movies, then Disney must be a downright failure!

So did the children get to see Bolt in its 3D version? Yes, but not that day. It was on another day at a different location. But that will be in my next post, coming right up!

    Wow..what a movie outing adventure!

GSC should have checked on the availability of the 3D before even selling the tickets!!...sigh customer service in this part of the world.

    Bolt was an enjoyable watch.

Haha, I thought they wouldn't let you in cause you were too late. Luckily they didn't show the movie then.

Hmm, I like animals but when it comes to a movie in which the characters are all dogs I think I find it quite boring. Maybe I should see it first tho'

You make me curious how big 1Utama is

You didn't miss much from the 3D bolt experience. The effect wasn't that great. If you have watched Polar Express on IMAX 3D, Bolt 3D was a disappointment in comparison.

I love dogs, I can't wait for the DVD for the chihuahua movie to come out. LOL.

I didn't know 3D movies need special projector...

Usually, when I go to 1Utama, I drive straight to B2. B1 parkings fill up fast.

my bug life, I think it's really not GSC's fault. It was the projector that broke down, and sometimes these things happen.

eiling, yes, the children were disappointed alrite! But they enjoyed the replacement movie, Beverly Hills Chihuahua and they also got to see Bolt on another day, so that sort of more than makes up for the disappointment. Despite what happened, I still like GSC 1Utama - it's my favourite cinema!

gallivanter, yeah, me too but it's really for the kids : )

xin, haha! If only Bolt could transform into a Chihuahua. LOL! Yes, Bolt is a nice movie and I think the 2D version is OK. The 3D version was not very spectacular, so better save your money : )

rad, oh no they will still let you in if you are late - this is the cinema, not the high class theatre : ) I also don't really movie where it's all about dogs, but this is really for the kids, not me. Actually 1Utama is quite big, but because we were at different floors with the cinema, so had to run up few flight of stairs or in our case, escalators! : )

angie tan, yes I agree the 3D for Bolt was nothing to shout about. Oh, if you like dogs, you will like Beverly Hills Chihuahua : )

khengsiong, actually I'm not sure if they need special projector, but the projector could have broken down even if they were showing the 2D version. These things do happen, so I don't blame GSC. I normally park at the upper floors in 1Utama. Usually lots of parking space there, as long as you don't arrive after 11am on the weekend and public holidays.

suituapui, thanks. Yes, not easy being single parent, so I try to visit them whenever I'm free : )

I agree that running from one wing to the other is quite a distance. Now, there's proof that you are qualified to join The Amazing Race. LOL!

Foong, you're a wonderful brother and uncle. Your sister and her kids are fortunate to have you in their life.

For kids, it's important for the adults not to allay their disappointment too much or else they'll brood over missing out on Bolt.
At least the kids were happy in the end, right?

renaye, it was a big letdown alrite! But they enjoyed the substitute movie, so it's all OK. I hope the webmaster will do something about it soon - don't want to read about baboons calling me robot. Haha!

lina, yes the kids were happy to watch the substitute movie and they even get to watch Bolt on another day, so no disappointment there! : )

SK, yes luckily they enjoyed the alternative movie : )

faisal, yeah it's tough for single mom to raise two kids by herself. So I always try to spend time with them whenever I'm free. Well, sometimes things like projector breaking down do happen, so I don't blame the cinema management : )

That's nice of you to treat your nephew and niece to a day of fun. The kids at the library loved the Chihuahua movie, just like you said, it is a good one for kids. Do you plan to see Valkyrie, the Tom Cruise movie? Do they show a lot of English movies in your country?

I watched Bolt at my son's insistence. I didn't know about the 3D one. Or else I would have tried it.

It's so nice of you to bring your sister and family for an outing. It must be hard on her bringing up her kids alone.

babette, not sure yet. Yes, cinemas in Malaysia show a lot of English movies, especially from the US.

iCalvyn, they are more for children, but if you like dogs, you will like both movies, though Bolt is the nicer of the two.

eastcoastlife, it's OK. The 3D was not a big deal. They could have done better on that actually. Yes, my sis is having a tough time bringing up her two kids alone. I just wanted to cheer them up : )
